Jordan
sees first preseason action
Note: This game summary is provided by Kerry DeZell,
whom we share season tickets with. Thanks Kerry!
Overall description was boring.
Jordan coming in late in second half and
staring third was highlight. Even that wasn't that great, he had one
steal on defense that he took end to end for layup and hit a couple of
open jumpers but nothing Jordanesque. Best part was when Rocky took kid
over to MJ and took picture with him. Nuggets were OK early getting a
few fast breaks but the really struggled to make any points at all after
that.
Defense was OK though certainly not stifling. Think they
may have some trouble on the boards this year particularly if Camby doesn't play
much. Gave up quite a few second shots and a lot of open looks on the perimeter.
Offense was not impressive at all. Howard had 17
or so but took quite a few shots as well. He should put up some numbers this year
as no-one else really to score. Motion offense didn't appear to be all that impressive
though did seem to offer some good post feeds. However, when no-one could make
an outside shot defense collapsed and caused problems there as well.
Point guard situation is as bad as you've heard. Satterfield
actually looked OK at times and had a few nice passes but some problems as well.
Howard, yes the 6-11 center, was the most reliable person bringing the ball down
which he had to do way too often. Harrington did not look like he belonged at
all. In years past I'd equate point guard play to having Anthony Goldwire and
whomever got cut last behind him at the point.
Posey still seems inconsistent on offense and kind
of freaked out when Jordan came in trying to keep MJ from scoring. He had an OK
game but just isn't the kind of guy that can carry a team on offense.
Rodney White looked OK early when nugs got a few
fast breaks and he had a couple of short jumpers in the key. Then as game progressed
he seemed to settle for long jumpers which don't think is his game though maybe
just a bad night. Actually reminds me a lot of Posey just a bit bigger.
Bowen is still Bowen with lots of hustly but not
really a starting forward in the NBA. Still has troubles on offense and had a
couple of layups blocked.
Hilario has potential but seems to like to dribble
and keep ball down low and will probably have some trouble getting his shot off
in NBA. Seemed to have trouble finishing and missed 6 or so free throws. Think
was leading rebounder.
Skita didn't play the entire first half and then
didn't look good when he did play in the second half. Went about 1-5 with an airball
and got bodied around pretty easily whenever he tried to go inside. Did seem to
have a quick first step on couple of drives but wasn't able to finish.
The shooter, Savovoic or whatever, wasn't afraid
to chuck them up but
had an 0-fer. Form looked good so probably just off night but he looked
scared to death whenever he had to dribble and he frantically looked for
ways to get rid of the ball in those circumstances.
Mark Blount was OK but nothing flashy. Seemed like
a medium big body with average skills. Had a putback or two and a couple of boards
but seemed a little weak in the post.
Anderson can just about jump out of the gym but
doesn't really seem to have a lot of game to go with his leap. He'll have some
awesome putback dunks but doesn't seem to be a consisten scorer yet.
Harvey didn't play too much but looked similar to last
year. Shot an air
ball from 10 ft but like Anderson can sure jump.
McCloud didn't play at all.
Would have to say Woody
summed it up pretty well...
Thanks for the detailed summary, Kerry.
Til next game,
Alan
