Notes from Blue/White Scrimmage

October 9th, 2002 by aswitzer

I attended the annual Blue/White scrimmage. I showed up a few minutes late, and the squads were already playing at shortly after 7:00. The Blue team was primarily Nuggets starters – Satterfield, Howard, Posey, and Camby. The White team had backup PG Darrick Martin, and Tskiti.

There were a lot of missed shots, but both teams ran the floor well – backing up the claims that new head coach Bzdelik made over the summer of creating one of the fittest squads in the NBA. He has the horses to do it too – with guys like Chris Andersen, Donnell Harvey, and Ryan Bowen.

The evening was fun, but I left at halftime, but it felt like an ordinary game, but no visiting team. They had actual refs, the regular Pepsi Center announcer, and a hokey half-time show. When I attended this scrimmage a few years ago at DU, it was a much more informal setting, and fun to see the players in a different light having fun. This felt too serious, but I’m sure it was a great chance for many local NBA fans to see a free game. I was disappointed that there wasn’t any personal interaction between the new coach and players at the scrimmage, but maybe the larger setting at the Pepsi Center didn’t allow for that.
