Chris Andersen out 6-8 weeks

December 6th, 2002 by aswitzer

Nuggets 2nd year PF – Chris Andersen broke his right thumb in a late November game against Golden State while going up to block a shot near the basket. He missed the block, and his outstretched thumb hit the backboard straight on. Andersen had been playing well, receiving more minutes this year and averaging 5.7 points a game with 50 percent shooting. Andersen is extremely athletic and very active – reminds me of Keon Clark with a better attititude. People I talked with at the Pepsi Center said Chris showed up every day this past summer to work out and work on his game. The surgery was a success, and hopefully we’ll see him back in uniform in mid to late January.

Andersen’s roster spot is filled by rookie Vincent Yarbrough from Tennessee. Vincent scored 10 points in his first NBA game.
