Congratulations to Marcus Camby for winning the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award that was handed out on Friday.
Marcus was first in the league in blocks, with 3.3 per game. He averaged 11.7 rebounds per game, good enough for a tie for 4th, and he led all centers with 1.24 steals per game.
“It’s kind of ironic how I can win the award and not make the All-Star team,” Camby said Friday. “The last couple of years I felt I had a great opportunity to be on that team. So, hopefully, next year with this award behind me, I can start getting some recognition about being on that team.”
Marcus was the only the third player in the past 20 years to win the award after being passed over for the All-Star game. Hopefully, this recognition will result in a well deserved selection next year… while hopefully still playing for the Denver Nuggets.
