Mark Jackson contract will be bought out

September 27th, 2002 by aswitzer

In a move similar to several made in the past few years (remember Tim Hardaway) a veteran point guard that arrived via trade will be waived from his contract with the Nuggets, according to the Denver Post today.

Jackson has expressed reservations about playing for the Nuggets this year. At the advanced pro-basketball age of 37, Mark has stated he prefers to play for a playoff contender. (Hmmm… wouldn’t we all?)

An agreement could be reached as early as today. Jackson is slated to make $4.2 million this season and $4.5 million next year, with a $2.25 million buyout option. He could then be either claimed off waivers by any team, or clear waivers after 48 hours and become an unrestricted free agent.

With Jackson departing, that leaves just Kenny Satterfield and rookie Junior Harrington on the roster as true point guards. Veteran guard Darrick Martin is expected to be in training camp also, which begins next Tuesday.
