Anthony signs, plays in last game of Long Beach Summer League

July 18th, 2003 by aswitzer

By delaying his signing until July 17th, long after most of the top picks had signed with their teams, Carmelo saved the Nuggets an extra half million to spend on free agents. It was a great gesture, but did keep Carmelo out of the first three games of the first Nuggets summer league. Thursday

After a busy and long night at the ESPY’s on Wednesday where he was chosen as male college athlete of the year, Carmelo scored 12 points in his first game as a Nugget. Yes, he was rusty and tired, but he did show some of the signs of future stardom. He’ll get a chance to rest up before the next summer league starts up in Utah on Saturday, July 19th.

Meanwhile, Skita was tearing up the summer league, averaging 20 pts and 8 rebounds per in four games. Yes, its just summer league, but its a good sign, and a great confidence boost as he prepares for his second season in the NBA.
